Oral History Program
Southeast Seniors will collect stories about community life from people who live in the 55414 zip code. The stories will focus on how life in the Marcy Holmes, Prospect Park or Southeast Como community has changed or been impacted by selected individuals who have lived in those neighborhoods for a long time.
How Does it Work?
Beginning in September, individuals will work with Erica Selzer-Schultz, an oral historian, to interview and collect stories from older people who have made an impact in the community. Interviews will be
Stories about the past are often lost when older members of the community pass away. We hope to capture some of the ways our communities have been formed and changed over the years by recording and transcribing stories of residents who have lived in the community for a long time.
Training and Support
Volunteers will participate in 3 workshops to learn techniques for preparing and conducting interviews with selected individuals. Support during the process will also be provided to ensure success.
Once all the interviews are transcribed, photos taken, and the project is complete, we'll have a party to show the work to the public. Please join us in March to see the results of our work. Date and location to be announced.
